about

In its sixth year, the Critical Themes in Media Studies conference continues to grow in size and breadth, providing graduate students throughout the United States and abroad with a unique opportunity to present and discuss issues pertaining to media studies in a setting that is both academic and welcoming.

The event presents multidisciplinary, theoretical and critical approaches to a broad range of topics. A series of panels showcase academic presentations by graduate students of The New School Media Studies program, the New School for Social Research and other schools.

Panels in the past have included but are not limited to the themes of Globalization, Televisuality, Cyberspace, Media and Social Change, Pop Culture, Political Economy, Media and Social Theory, Philosophy and Film, and Visual Culture.

The New School's graduate program in Media Studies and The Department of Sociology of The New School for Social Research sponsor this event to encourage diverse perspectives in modern media.
