- Critical Themes is a student-run conference sponsored by The Graduate Program in Media Studies, a division of The New School for General Studies. Past support has been provided by the New School for Social Research and Parsons the New School for Design. Our organizing committee consists of students from both the Media Studies Program and the Sociology department. Dr. Paolo Carpignano is our faculty advisor.
- Who is eligible to present at Critical Themes?
- Any M.A. and Ph.D student is eligible to present at Critical Themes.
- What type of submissions do you accept?
- We accept a wide range of academic work pertaining to the field of media studies.
- How should abstracts be formatted?
- Abstracts must be under 300 words.
- When are abstracts due?
- The abstract due date was February 1, 2009.
- Where should I send my submission?

- My paper has been accepted! What do I do now?
- RSVP by February 21 and submit your completed paper no later than March 4 to criticalthemes2009[at]gmail[dot]com. We prefer PDF submissions. Please name your file descriptively including your last name and paper title.
- I'm an undergraduate student. Can I submit an abstract for review?
- We consider exceptional submissions by undergraduate students on a case by case basis.
- Do you offer travel stipends for out of town presenters?
- Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to offer funding for travel costs. Please check with your home department for potential funding sources, such as travel grants.
